What got you interested in working in the world of Legacy Home and Estate Services?
Honestly, I think it all started when I realized I had an unnatural talent for convincing my parents to finally get rid of their decades old questionable fashion choices. There’s something oddly satisfying about turning a cluttered attic into a room where you might actually find your long lost keys. Plus, who wouldn’t want a job where you could stumble across anything from a dusty grand piano to a 1970s lava lamp collection? Who knew that estate sales could be the ultimate grown-up scavenger hunt.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a place where the local wildlife consisted of nosy neighbors and the occasional stray cat that thought it owned the block. It was one of those towns where everyone knows your business before you do and will ask you where you went to high school because maybe they know you from that one class that you didn’t skip all the time. That place is here in Louisville.
What is your favorite thing you found in a house?
That’s like asking a parent to pick their favorite child, impossible! Between the vintage disco balls, E.T. memorabilia, and quirky collections of salt and pepper shakers, it’s hard to choose! Every house feels like a new episode of ‘What’s Behind Door Number 3?’ Honestly, the real treasure is the never-ending supply of weird and wonderful surprises!
What is the funniest thing you had to tell your friends about in a house?
Well, I don’t really tell my friends about what I find in houses. It’s hard to fit into a conversation when my friend is talking about what their kid did at their baseball or soccer game and I just randomly bring up the creepy porcelain dolls I found in an attic corner and they were all just sitting there, staring at me, like they were plotting their escape.
We are treasure hunters, what are things you consider a treasure?
As a treasure hunter,I see ‘treasure’ in all forms. Sure, there’s the obvious stuff like rare antiques or a stash of old coins, but sometimes the real gems are the quirky finds, a perfectly preserved ’90s Beanie Baby, a vintage typewriter that still works, or a ridiculously ornate lamp that looks like it came from a wizard’s living room. I’ve learned that ‘treasure’ comes in all shapes and forms. It’s not just about gold coins or valuable antiques, though we’ll never turn those down. Sometimes it’s an old family photo album, a quirky piece of vintage furniture, or that one of a kind knick knack that makes you laugh out loud, like a singing fish mounted on a wall. Honestly, anything that has a story to tell or brings a bit of unexpected joy or anything that makes you pause and think, ‘Who on earth thought this was a good idea?’ is a treasure in my book.
Tell us one story that you would love for folks to know about you and your legacy?
For me, my legacy isn’t just about collecting or finding cool stuff; it’s about connecting people with their past and creating moments that remind us why memories matter. Plus, who doesn’t love a good detective story?
